ABOUT THE CHAPEL

The Kindler family mausoleum – Geocaching Opencaching Polska Before World War I, the Kindlers were one of the most important and richest factory families in Pabianice, also known for their social activity. It was them, guided by the Evangelical ethos of responsibility, who made a significant contribution to the construction and development of Pabianice, building or supporting financially many of the facilities that still exist today (including the Roman Catholic Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary). They also established the first fire brigade in the city.

The history of the chapel goes back to the beginning of the 20th century. It was funded by Zofia Kindler as an expression of her love and memory for her late husband Ludwik. The project and its implementation were entrusted to the Łódź-based company “Wende & Klause”. It was erected in the years 1907 – 1909. In 1911, the family donated the mausoleum as a pre-funeral chapel to the Evangelical parish.

The chapel was built in the style of post-secession modernism, modeled on the church of St. Leopold in Vienna’s Steinhof. The building was built on a square plan and topped with a semicircular apse. There are pylon towers in the four corners. The whole building is covered with a dome-shaped roof. The rusticated façade is divided by a wide cornice and pilasters. The interior is made up of one nave with a gallery decorated with garlands and wreaths. The windows feature stained glass from the workshop of Richard Schlein from Zittau. The largest of them, in the window above the main entrance, shows angels lifting an urn, which is to symbolize the resurrection.

Currently, the chapel, thanks to the efforts of the Evangelical-Augsburg parish of St. Peter and St. Paweł, the “We Kochamy Pabianice” Foundation, with the support of EU funds and the Grażyna and Andrzej Furman families, it is being revitalized. After the works are completed, the chapel will continue to fulfill its liturgical function, but at the same time, it will also be the site of many cultural events in Pabianice.
